Receipts dating to Reconstruction-era for "special tax" and payments to wholesale companies. Four receipts for purchase of general merchandise from wholesale dealers in Charleston, S.C., and in Charlotte, N.C.; 1 handwritten receipt, 28 Dec. 1869, from Charleston, S.C. Three receipts, 1869 and 1870, from U.S. Internal Revenue for "special tax" on retail business stores, and 1870 for sales of tobacco; one receipt identifies Olive Branch (Union County, N.C.) as location of the firm's store; two receipts from this period suggest that firm moved to South Carolina, based on docket: "Charlotte, N.C., Transferred from this Dist[rict] to Chesterfield C[ourt] House, South Carolina ..."
